Nadia Comaneci - (born on 12th November, 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej (now Onesti, Romania), Romanian gymnast. The first person in history to achieve a score of 10 in a competition at the Olympics. Bela Karolyi later Romanian gymnastics coach, discovered Comaneci when she was just seven years old. Comaneci competed for the first time at the national junior championships and finished 13th. In the following year, she was crowned champion. In her 1972 first international event that was an Olympic-style junior preolympic competition that was open to countries of the communist bloc, she won 3 gold medals. Then in 1973 and 1975, she was awarded the All-around Junior Champion. In her first international competition as a senior in 1975 she beat the Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva the five-time European champion winning four gold and one silver medal. She won the American Cup in New York City in 1976 becoming the first woman to perform the backward double salto in dismounting from the uneven bars that are parallel.
